DHAKA: Election Commissioner Mohammad Shahnewaz said the election commission (EC) will not tolerate any activity that breaches the electoral laws and rules in upcoming three city corporation elections.

He also said: “The returning officers will take immediate actions against violations of electoral code of conduct.”

Shahnewaz made the remarks while talking to the media at EC office in city on Tuesday.

He said the contenders have started their promotional activities from Tuesday. Moreover, they can campaign with their election symbols after two or three days.

The candidates should follow the election rules, otherwise, the returning officers will take action against them as per law, the election commissioner said categorically.

While answering a query of journalists, he said stern actions have already been taken against some candidates for violations and it will be continued.

However, the elections of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) will be held on April 28.
