DHAKA: BNP-backed Abdul Awal Mintoo lost his last hope to run in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral race.

Supreme Court Appellate Division Thursday passed no order on his plea filed challenging the High Court verdict that rejected his writ petition to reverse Election Commission decision canceling his nomination paper.

The hearing held at the SC bench led by Chief Justice SK Sinha.

According to lawyers, the “no rule” decision means SC upheld the HC verdict.

On Monday, HC division bench rejected Mintoo's writ petition challenging the cancellation of his nomination papers for mayoral candidate in the upcoming DNCC polls.

On April 1, the returning officer of the Dhaka North rejected the nomination papers of two mayoral candidates, including that of Mintoo.
