CHHITTAGONG: Ruling Awami League-backed Nagorik Committee mayoral candidate AJM Nasir Uddin has got elephant symbol and BNP-backed Chattagram Unnayan Andolan candidate M Manjur Alam got orange for the Chittagong City Corporation polls.

Returning Officer Abdul Baten allocated the polls-symbol to candidates for Chittagong city polls at Muslim Institute Hall around 9:45am Friday.

Symbols are being allocated among 287 aspirants for mayor, general councilor and reserved councilor posts from this morning.

As per election schedule, April 9 was the last date of candidacy withdrawal.

After withdrawal of candidacy, 12 candidates will fight for mayor post while 218 aspirants for mayor posts and 61 candidates for women (reserved) councilor posts for the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC).

Mayoral candidates are -- Nagorik Committee’s AJM Nasir Uddin, Chattagram Unnayan Andolan’s M Manjur Alam, Jatiya Party presidium member Solaiman Alam Sheth, BNF Arif Moinuddin, Gazi M Alauddin, Waiz Hossain Bhuiyan, Islamic Front Majibul Haque Shukkar, Islami Front Secretary General MA matin, Syed Sajjad Joha, Saifuddin Ahmed Rabi, Abul Kalam Azad and Shafiul Alam.

However, voting in the city corporation will be held on April 28.
