DHAKA: Law enforcing agencies, in separate drives, detained a total of 136 people, including 22 activists of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Chhatra Shibir, from five districts for their alleged link in sabotages.
The anti-sabotage drives were conducted between Thursday night and Friday morning.
In Jessore, at least 65 people, including five activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, were arrested from eight upazilas of the district.
Jessore police control room sources confirmed the matter.
In Satkhira, some 35 people, including eight activists of BNP-Jamaat, were arrested from different areas of the district.
Special Branch Officer-in-charge (OC) Emdad Hossain of district police confirmed the matter to banglanews.
The arrestees are accused in different cases, the OC added.
In Chandpur, the law enforcers, in drives from Thursday night to Friday morning, rounded up 23 people from different upazilas in the district.
Chandpur SP M Ami Jafar confirmed the matter to banglanews.
In Chittagong, police, in overnight drives, detained seven people-- three activists of BNP, three activists of Chhatra Shibir and an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami --- from Sitakunda and Lohagara Upazilas of the district on allegation of creating sabotage in the areas.
District Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) Muhammad Naimul Hasan confirmed the matter to banglanews.
In Gaibandha, police arrested six people, including two activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, from different places of the district, said Mosharaf Hossain, Additional Superintendent of District Police.
