FENI: Police detained 113 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, including its Daganbhuiyan Upazila unit secretary Rafiqul Islam, while holding a meeting at a madrasa in the area.

Abul Foysal, Officer-in-charge (OC) of Daganbhuiyan Thana, confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said a team of police arrested the Jamaat men around 5:30pm Sunday while they were holding a clandestine meeting in Ashraful Ulum Madrasa of the upazila for planning to create sabotage ahead of hartal.

Another sources said at least 500 Jamaat men gathered there for meeting. Later, local Juba League and Chhatra League leaders and activists confined them inside the madrasa.

At one stage, the both groups locked into a clash that left some people injured.

Being informed, police rushed in and initially detained 61 Jamaat men from the spot. Later, the law enforcers detained more 52 Jamaat people searching rooms of the madrasa.
