DHAKA: Plainclothes law enforcers detained eight persons who were returning from BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s ‘naba barsha’, Bangla New Year, celebration program.

It was organized by BNP cultural wing Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas) in front of the party’s central office in city’s Naya Paltan area on Tuesday afternoon.

However, Khaleda Zia attended the program and made a short speech requesting city dwellers to cast vote for BNP-backed contenders in Dhaka North and South city corporations and Chittagong City Corporation elections to be held on April 28.
