HC defers order on Producing Salauddin

DHAKA: The High Court (HC) on Wednesday deferred till April 20 the verdict on a petition filed seeking its order on the government to trace and produce BNP’s missing joint secretary general Salauddin Ahmed.

The HC bench of Justice Quamrul Islam Siddique and Justice Govinda Chandra Thakur passed the order following time petition filed by plaintiff’s lawyer Khandakar Mahbub Hossain.

However, Wednesday was the day to pass order on the rule, which the court fixed after conducting hearing on April 8 and 9.

Earlier on march 12, HC issued a rule upon government to explain why directions should not be given to find out Salauddin and produce him before it within March 15 in response to a petition filed by Salauddin’s wife Hasina Ahmed.

Later, the court conducted hearing on the rule on March 15 to 16 and April 8 to 9.

Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar and AJ Mohammad Ali moved for the petition during hearings in the court. Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state.

On March 11, BNP and Salauddin’s family alleged that law enforcers along with RAB personnel detained him from Uttara in city after 10:00pm on March 10.

However, RAB, police or detective branch denied detaining Salauddin, who had been announcing party program from an unknown location till his alleged detention.
