DHAKA: Out of four arson attack cases, the High Court on Thursday granted six months’ interim bail release to imprisoned acting BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Almagir in a case.

An HC bench comprising Justice Mohammad Nuruzzaman and Justice Jafar Ahmed passed the order.

The court also issued a rule upon the Dhaka district magistrate asking to explain within two weeks why Mirza Fakhrul would not be given bail release in three other cases.

Supreme Court Bar Association president Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, also a BNP leader, moved for Mirza Fakhrul in the court while additional attorney general Momtaz Uddin Fakir moved for the state.

Lawyers said four arson attack cases were filed against Mirza Fakhrul Islam with Patan and Motijheel police stations of the city.
