DHAKA: BNP urged the Election Commission (EC) to take measures in stopping government grants, recruitments and development works before the city corporation polls scheduled to be held on April 28.
Acting office secretary of the party Dr Asaduzzaman Khan, also party’s international affairs secretary, made the call in a press conference at party’s Nayapaltan headquarters in city Sunday noon.
He further said there should be a level playing field for all candidates.
He also said his party and alliance would think the EC was working in favour of incumbent Awami League-endorsed candidates if it does not take actions regarding the matter.
The BNP leader alleged that AL was conducting development works at the eleventh hour of city corporation polls fearing its defeat.
Asaduzzaman also said the government was going to appoint 109 persons violating code of conducts before the polls.
He also asked the commission to take actions on filing false cases against BNP leaders and activists in Dhaka city.
BNP leader Barrister Haider Ali, assistant office secretary Asadul Karim Shahin and Swechhasebok Dal joint-secretary Professor Aminul Islam, among others, were present at the press meet.
