DHAKA: Different mobile courts on Monday fined a total of 17 mayoral and councilor candidates of Dhaka and Chittagong city corporations.
The courts fined them on charge of violating the electoral code of conduct with different amount ranging from Tk 500 to 20,000.
A press release, sent by Election Commission public relation officer SM Asaduzzaman, disclosed the matter on Monday night.
Of the code violators, four were from Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), three were from Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), and 10 were from Chittagong City Corporation (CCC).
The DSCC candidates were Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Sayeed Khokon (Tk 8,000), M Selim (Tk 5,000), Khalilur Rahman (Tk 2,000), and Shahidul Islam (Tk 1,000) while the DNCC candidates included Ward No. 17 councilor aspirant Ishak Bhuiyan’s driver Shafiqul Islam (Tk 3,000), Sultan Zishan, (Tk 500), and Moshiur Rahman (warning).
List of candidates from CCC included Alhaj Nurul Islam (Tk 20,000), Earshad Mamun, Jasim Uddin, SS Khaled Bablu, Ritesh Uddin, Rabiul Hasan, and M Chandan, (Tk 5,000 each), and Billal Hossain and Bablu (Tk 3,000 each).
