DHAKA: BNP and Awami League both filed separate cases over the attack on BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s motorcade in city’s Banglamotor area during polls campaign.
Ramna Thana has recorded both the cases on Thursday morning, said Mashiur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Ramna Thana.
Thana sources said BNP chairperson’s adviser Abdul Quaiyum filed the case accusing 40 to 50 unidentified people over the attack.
As per Quaiyum’s case statement, BNP chairperson’s motorcade came under attack allegedly by ruling party men in the city’s Banglamotor area on Wednesday, leaving her personal security staff injured.
During the attack, a glass of Khaleda’s car was damaged, her security staff’s car was also vandalized. The attackers also beat up her security personnel and some other officials.
On the other hand, Shahbagh Thana Chhatra League leader Babu Hasan, on behalf of Awami League, filed another case against 30 to 40 unidentified people on allegation of attacking BCL activists from the BNP chief’s motorcade.
According to Babu’s case statement, Khaleda Zia’s motorcade hit some campaigners of ruling party-backed Dhaka South City Corporation mayor candidate Sayeed Khokon while they were distributing leaflets, leaving him, Liton Sheikh and Jakir Dewan injured.
When they protested the incident, BNP chief’s security staff beat Khokon’s supporter with sticks and shotguns. They also snatched Khokon’s leaflets and threatened his campaigners with death.
Both the cases were filed bringing allegation of attempt to murder.
