DHAKA: Awami League-backed candidate Anisul Huq demanded punishment of culprits who attacked BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade during poll campaigns.
He said at a discussion arranged by Bangladesh United Islamic Party at Uttara Milestone College on Friday.
In reply to a query about BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's convoy attack, Anisul Huq said he thinks the incident will not affect his voters.
The former FBCCI president said that he does not know who made the attack. But he demanded punishment of the attackers immediately.
“I had never compromise the long-sustained busy life, I will not do so in the future,” said a confident Anisul.
Citing that the government-supported mayor can do his job more than the other, he said, the ruling party has extended support for me. So, I can do the job better.
Regarding the army deployment during the time of voting, the mayoral contender said the Election Commission was requested to take necessary measures to ensure voting rights of all. The commission will take final decision in this regard.
The meeting was attended by, among others, former home minister Shahara Khatun and activists of Awami League.
