DHAKA: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia demanded to the Election Commission (EC) to deploy army forces in three city corporations of Dhaka and Chittagong to hold a fair, neutral and acceptable election.
The BNP chief came up with her demand while addressing a street rally in Narda Bus Stand area during her campaign for city polls for sixth day on Friday evening.
Addressing the rally, Kahleda Zia said that this government has been trying to hold poll like the January 5 election. EC willingly withdrew its decision on army deployment in city polls to give privileges to the ruling party-backed candidates.
Army personnel need to deploy to hold fair polls, she demanded seeking votes to the BNP- backed candidates in the city polls.
Earlier Khaleda Zia left her Gulshan residence at 4:35pm and began her campaign in the city corporation polls for sixth day after a day break.
The BNP chief started her campaign for party-backed mayoral and counselor aspirants in Dhaka South, Dhaka North and Chittagong city corporations’ polls, to be held on April 28.
During her campaigning, Khaleda Zia’s motorcades were come under attacks for several times allegedly carried out by the supporters of ruling Awami League.
