DHAKA: Ruling Awami League-led 14-party grand alliance on Sunday urged chief election commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed to stay cautious on possible sabotages of BNP and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami during upcoming city polls.
The alliance made the urge when a 14-member delegation of the alliance led-by Samyabadi Dal general secretary Dilip Barua held an hour-long meeting with the CEC at the latter’s office in city around 11:00am.
After coming out from the meeting, Fazle Hossain Badsha, representative of Workers Party of Bangladesh, told banglanews that BNP and Jamaat may create anarchy during city polls.
‘For this reason, we urged the Election Commission to stay vigilant on the matter,’ he added.
Earlier, CEC’s personal secretary AKM Mazharul Islam told banglanews that the overall situation of the upcoming city corporation polls were expected to be discussed in the meeting.
Voting in the Dhaka and Chittagong city corporations is set to be held on Tuesday.
