DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina congratulated her British counterpart David Cameron on his reelection in the UK parliamentary polls, held on Thursday, inviting him to visit Bangladesh.
The premier’s press wing disclosed the matter to media Friday night.
In a congratulatory message to Cameron, Hasina said, "I have great pleasure in extending my heartiest felicitations on your reelection. This renewed mandate is certainly recognition of your astute leadership, particularly for transforming the British economy as the fastest growing in Europe,"
Hasina said relations between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom have been mature, strong and enduring, which are based on shared values of democracy, freedom and human rights, rule of law, secularism as well as on common and mutually beneficial interests.
"Bangladesh is proud of the presence and contribution of its vibrant community in the United Kingdom. They have further strengthened our ties," said the premier.
"I am happy to note that Bangladesh and the UK are working in partnership for strengthening the democratic ethos, empowering the vulnerable, countering terrorism and extremism, addressing the impacts of climate change among other global challenges of our time," Hasina added.
The premier said that she firmly believes that under the able and dynamic leadership of David Cameron, the existing excellent relations between the two friendly countries would continue to grow with fresh initiatives exploring new areas of cooperation and thereby achieving stronger partnerships in the days ahead.
"You would agree that there is scope for further development in our bilateral relations through trade, investment, education and knowledge-sharing," Hasina said.
In her message, the premier invited Cameron to visit Bangladesh in near future at his convenient time to see the overall progress of her country, particularly through mainstreaming and empowering the women.
"I am confident that your visit would infuse further impetus to our relations and take the same to a greater height," she hoped.
Hasina wished Cameron and his family, good health, long life, and happiness, and the warm, friendly people of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the Northern Ireland, peace, progress, and prosperity.
