NARAYANGANJ: At least 10 people were injured as two groups of ruling Awami League’s (AL) Araihajar upazila unit in Narayanganj locked into clashes on Saturday.
Moreover, the infighting groups also set fire to shops and vandalized several establishments in the area.
Sources said the clashes were results of a longstanding strife between Satgram Union chairman and also AL leader Wadud Mia and union unit AL president Ibrahim Ebu in the area.
Ebu told banglanews that supporters of Wadud Mia vandalized several shops of his market around 10:30pm on Friday. They also set some establishments on fire following a lawsuit.
On the other hand, Wadud refuted the claim saying supporters of Ebu attacked them.
Supporters of the two conflicting groups further locked into clashes later on Saturday morning, leaving at least 10 people hurt.
However, police opened fire blank cartridges and charged batons to bring the situation under control.
Araihajar Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Alamgir Hossain told banglanews that police shot 31 rounds of shotgun bullets to bring the situation under their control.
