MEHERPUR: Police arrested seven activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, and its student front Islami Chattra Shibir from Monakhali village under Mujibnagar Upazila of the district early Sunday.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Mofidul Islam, acting Officer-In-Charge (OC) of Mujibnagar Thana, confirmed the matter to banglanews.

OC Mofidul told banglanews that tipped-off, police raided Monakhali Moddoyapara Mosque where they were holding an anti-government meeting secretly around 12:30am.

Senescing lawpersons’ presence, they tried to escape but police caught them on spot.

The detainees are set to produce before the court Sunday noon after showing them arrested under section 151, the SI added.
