DHAKA: The appellate division of the Supreme Court adjourned the prosecutors’ argument till May 24 on the appeal filed by Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed challenging the death penalty for his wartime crimes.
The four-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice SK Sinha passed the order on Monday as defense lawyer SM Shahjahan concluded the presentation of paperbook to the court of the case.
Later, the state prosecutors started placing their arguments.
The other members of the bench are Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana, Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, and Justice Hassan Foyez Siddique.
On the other hand, Attorney General Mahbubey Alan and Deputy Attorney General Ekramul Haque stood for the state.
On May 24, the defense counsels will also present their arguments.
However, International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) awarded death sentence to Mojaheed on July 17, 2013.
Later, Mojaheed appealed against the verdict on August 11, 2013 seeking acquittal from the charges.
