Salauddin being taken to court Monday!

DHAKA: BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed, who is undergoing treatment at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health And Medical Sciences (Neigrihms) after arrest for intrusion, is likely to be produced before Indian court on Monday.

If doctors give release order, Shilong police want to produce him before Meghalaya Court around 10:00am.

Neigrihms hospital source told local media on Sunday that senior officers of Shilong police keep in touch regularly with medical board formed for treatment of Salauddin Ahmed.

Hospital authorities informed police that physical condition of the 54-year-old BNP leader is stable.  So, he is likely to be produced before court on Monday.

But Salauddin’s lawyer SP Mohanta told media that he had no information about producing his client to the court. As per doctors’ final opinion, police may produce him before court, he added.

Meghalaya police wanted to take the Bangladesh politician to court and investigate into the matter how he entered India.

However, Salauddin claimed that a gang abducted him from Dhaka’s Uttara area on March 10. But, he does not know how he reached Shilong.

According to the police, the 54-year-old former minister was arrested on May 12, after some residents reported a “suspicious” person in the Golf Links area.

On being questioned, Salauddin reportedly identified himself but could not recall how he landed up in Meghalaya.

His wife Hasina Ahmed sought bail prayer in the first class judicial magistrate court of Shillong.

According to sources, the court has temporarily suspended the bail prayers and asked for records from the investigating officer and fixed May 29 as the next date of hearing of the case.

According to the attending doctors, Salahuddin’s condition is said to be stable. He was transferred to Neigrihms Wednesday evening from the civil hospital.

During the court hearing, the petitioner pleaded that Salahuddin was sick and needed to be taken abroad for better medical treatment.

Several documents such as passports and visas of the countries which he visited for medical treatment were also submitted before the court.
