Rizvi denied bail, remand BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi

DHAKA: A Dhaka court Monday rejected the remand plea for BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a case on charge of hurling petrol bomb, arson attack on vehicles and vandalism.

The court also rejected the BNP leader’s bail plea and ordered the police to inquire him at the jail gate within three working days.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shamsul Arefin passed the orders after hearing police’s 7-day remand plea for Rizvi in the case.

Assistant Commissiner of Police Mirash Udin moved the remand petition for the state while Advocates Sanaullah Mia, Zoynul Abedin and Masud Ahemd Talukder stood for bail petition of  the BNP leader in the court.

The court ordered the police to inquire him at the jail gate within three working days, rejecting the bail plea.

On January 30, the case was filed against him on charge of violence, including vandalism, arson attack and hurling petrol bomb, which were committed during month-long indefinite blockade and sporadic hartals since January 5.

Earlier on May 28, another Dhaka court declined both remand and bail petitions against BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Shamsuzzaman Dudu in several cases.
