BNP leader Papia sent to jail Syeda Asifa Ashrafi Papia

DHAKA: A court on Tuesday sent BNP leader and also former MP Syeda Asifa Ashrafi Papia to jail in nine cases of torching and sabotage.

Metropolitan Magistrates Mostafizur Rahman, Maruf Hossain and Mahbubur Rahman passed the order separately after the hearing in the afternoon.

Earlier, Papia surrendered in Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court in the afternoon on five cases with Paltan, three with Mirpur and another with Lalbagh thanas.

BNP joint secretary general Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Advocates Golam Mostafa Khan, Mohsin Miah, Masud Ahmed Talukdar and Kazi Nazib Ullah Hiru moved for Papia.

In January, a total of nine cases have been filed for torching and creating sabotage during nationwide indefinite hartal and blockade enforced by BNP led 20-party alliance.
