DHAKA: Former telecommunications minister Abdul Latif Siddique was released on bail on Monday afternoon.
He, who was arrested for anti-religious remarks, got the release from Dhaka Central Jail in city at 5:00pm.
Dhaka Central Jail deputy jailer Nesar Alam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Earlier on May 26 and June 23, Justice Nizamul Haque and Justice Farid Ahmed of the High Court bench granted the former minister’s bail in 17 defamation cases.
However, Siddique’s anti-religious comments, delivered at a Tangail Samity meeting in New York on September 29, 2014, created widespread criticism in Bangladesh.
Later, the government fired Siddique from the cabinet. He was also expelled from the post of ruling Awami League.
