DHAKA: BNP chairperson and also former premier Khaleda Zia commented that ruling Awami League (AL) is afraid of trial and the people.

For these reasons, AL avoids election, she added.

The BNP chief made the comments while speaking at an iftar program, organized by BNP-led 20-party alliance member Islami Oikya Jote (IOJ), at a city hotel on Thursday evening.

BNP leaders Mir Mohammad Nasir, Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Nazrul Islam Khan and Dr Asaduzzaman Khan Ripon, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Amirul Islam, JAGPA president Shafiul Alam Pradhan and Muslim League president HM Qamruzzaman, among others, attended the program, chaired by IOJ chairman Abdul Latif Nezami.
