BARISAL: A district court has sent eleven leaders and activists of BNP and Islami Chhatra Shibir to jail in Banaripara upazila of Barisal district.

Barisal additional district and session second court and Special Tribunal-3 judge Mohammad Adib Ali passed the order on Tuesday.

The court sent the BNP-Shibir men to jail after their surrender before it and plea for bail.

The arrestees included Banaripara thana unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal president Habibur Rahman Jewel, municipality unit Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal joint convenor Siraj Fakir and Shibir leader Atiqul Islam.

However, police filed a case against the leaders and activists in accusation of setting fire to a cooperative office in the upazila during the BNP-led 20-party alliance called hartal and blockade in the area.
