TUNGIPARA: Public administration minister and also ruling Awami League (AL) general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam said there is no possibility of midterm election.
He came up in this remark while returning to Dhaka after paying homage to the tomb of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Tungipara, also the birthplace of Bangabandhu, on his death anniversary on Saturday.
Before that AL leaders and activists, its associate units also paid homage and joined a ‘doa mahfil’ and ‘munjat’.
Earlier around 6:30am of the day, a delegation led by AL general secretary and public administration minister Syed Ashraful Islam went to Tungipara.
Ashraf told the media that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina did not discussed anything about midterm election.
‘The election will be held under the incumbent prime minister after five years,’ he added.
He also remarked that if BNP does not join the national election its existence will be threatened.
According to the constitution, prime minister can take initiatives for election sending a letter to president after canceling the parliament, he added.
Ashraf also urged BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia not to celebrate her birthday on August 15.
However, a 40-day program has been chalked out to observe the 40th anniversary of martyrdom of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15.
On Saturday afternoon, the first day of the month of mourning, Bangladesh Krishak League (BKL) organized a blood donation camp followed by a discussion on the premises of the city’s Bangabandhu Memorial Museum.
Prime Minister and also AL president Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the program.
Besides, different political parties, socio-cultural-professional bodies have also taken separate programs to mark the Month of Mourning.
In this month in 1975, the Bangali nation lost its greatest son of the millennium, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
