DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) has extended time till August 31 for the registered political parties to submit their annual financial transaction reports.

Election Commissioner Shah Newaz made the announcement on Monday adding, “Out of 40 political parties, 25 parties have submitted their statements, nine applied for time extension while six remained silent.”

He added, “As per the Political Parties Registration Rule, 2008, the parties must submit the annual financial reports audited by a chartered accountant firm within July 31 the next year.”

Besides, if a party fails to submit its financial report for three consecutive years, it will lose its registration.
