DHAKA: Police arrested Sirajganj upazila chairman M Riaz Uddin, 55, from city’s Uttara area in a gold smuggling case.

Acting on a tip-off, Dhaka Metropolitan Police of Detective Branch conducted a drive in the area around 3:30pm and arrest him.

DMP DB police (north) deputy police commissioner (DC) Sheikh Nazmul Alam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said Riaz, who was fugitive for a long, is accused in a gold smuggling case. Now, the arrestee is under DB custody.
