RANGPUR:  A union-level leader of ruling Awami League (AL) was found murdered with his throat slit in Kawnia upazila of the district Tuesday midnight.

The deceased was identified as Rahmat Ali, 50, leader of Tepa Madhupur union unit Awami League.

Rangpur circle ASP Saifur Rahman Saif told banglanews that miscreant attacked Rahmat at 11:30pm while he was returning his village home from his pharmacy at upazila Sadar, leaving him dead on the spot.

‘I visited the spot. Police are trying to arrest the killers,’ the ASP added.

The body has been sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, he also said.
