DHAKA: Ruling Awami League (AL) gave the authority to its president and also Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to fix up party nomination in the upcoming municipal elections.
AL leader advocate Riazul Kabir Kawser, in this regard, handed over a letter, signed by party general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam to the Election Commission on Saturday.
EC deputy secretary M Shamsul Alam received the letter, mentioning the authorization given to Sheikh Hasina.
According to the schedule declared by the EC, polls will be held in 234 municipalities across the country on December 30.
However, the EC set December 3 as last date for nomination paper submission while December 5 and 6 for scrutinizing the forms and December 13 as last date for withdrawal of nominations.
Voters will cast the ballots at 3,582 polling centers across the country to elect 234 mayors, 2,952 councilors and 738 councilors (reserved).
