GAZIPUR: Miscreants chopped a local Jubo League leader to death in the presence of Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque at Kaliakoir Upazila of the district Friday evening.

The deceased was identified as Raqibul Islam, former president of Kaliakoir upazila unit Jubo League.

Kaliakoir Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Omar Faruq told banglanews that local Awami League (AL) organized the rally at Bangabandhu College ground at Chandra to mark the 11th anniversary of deadly grenade attack on August 21 in 2004 at a rally of the then opposition AL in Dhaka.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque was present here as chief guest, he added.

Suddenly, a gang of 4/5 miscreants attacked Rafiqul Islam around 6:00pm, leaving him dead on the spot, he added.

Minister and other leaders came out quickly after hearing the news.

OC Omar Faruq also said they were trying to detain the killers.
