RAJSHAHI: Police detained 62 leaders-activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Chhatra Shibir, including Jamaat’s municipality unit ameer professor Saiful Islam, from a secret meeting on Sunday night.

A team of police raided Chhatari Modyapara mosque in Bagha upazila after Isha prayers and detained municipality unit Jamaat office secretary Imaj Uddin, Ward unit president Abdur Rashid, secretary Jahangir and 59 others.

Bagha Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Aminur Rahman said the detainees were holding clandestine meeting inside the mosque after Isha prayers. Sensing the presence of police, upazila Jamaat Ameer and chairman Jinnat Ali fled the spot.

Drive is underway to detain him,  OC Aminur Rahman further said.

The detainees were being interrogated in police custody. After interrogation, legal action would be taken against them, the OC added.
