GOPALGANJ: Police arrested Jamaat-e-Islami Gopalganj district unit amir Advocate Azmal Hussian Sardar on Thursday early morning.

The Jamaat leader, who is also vice-principal of MH Khan College in sadar upazila, was held from his Miapara residence of the district town.

Gopalganj Sadar Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Selim Reza told banglanews that police detained him on suspicion of creating violence during Jamaat-announced upcoming programs in the area.

Later at noon, he was produced before the court, the OC added.
