DHAKA:  Leaders of the ruling Awami League blamed BNP for conspiring against the government to make it unpopular trying to grab power.

The Al leaders made the comment on Sunday evening at a discussion and doa mehfil organized by Diploma Engineers’ Association to mark the national mourning day.

AL presidium member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury said, “In 1974 artificial famines were created to defame the Bangabandhu government and the conspiracy is still continuing.”

Mentioning the call for anti-government movement of BNP after Eid, party’s acting general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif queried, “For whose sake is this movement? Begum Zia has no responsibility towards the people indeed.”

He said, “Khaleda Zia is planning to go to power by making the government unpopular through conspiracy. I request her not to make the country unstable by inventing false issues.”

Hanif asked Khaleda to let her two sons face the law and prove them innocent, if they really are, regarding the corruption cases against them.

State minister for Home Shamsul Haque Tuku said, “The movement against all ill-efforts must be continued. We have to resist them with all their conspiracies.”

The programme was presided over by president of the organization Md. Shafiullah.
