Schoolboy injured in MP’s firing

GAIBANDHA: A 9-year-old boy was injured by bullet when lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton opened firing in Sundarganj upazila of the district on Friday.

The shooting incident took place in Gopalcharan area of Dahabandh union of the upazila around 5:45am.

The injured was identified as Saurab, a class-IV student of Gopalcharan Government Primary School and also son of Saju Mia.

Injured Saurab was rushed to Upazila Health Complex and later was admitted to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Locals said Gaibandha-1 constituency MP Manjurul Islam was returning district town from Bamandanga at dawn. On way to home, the lawmaker fired several shots indiscriminately that left the boy injured on both legs.

Sundarganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdul Hye Milton told banglanews that being informed that the vehicle, carrying the injured boy, was obstructed, he rushed to the spot and helped the family to rush the boy to Rangpur.

However, he could not confirm how the boy suffered bullet injuries.

Sundarganj Thana officer-in-charge (OC-investigation) Jinnat Ali told banglanews that the incident is being investigated.
