CHITTAGONG: The army wing chief of Chittagong region of banned extremist outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) was killed in a grenade blast at their den in Karnaphuli Thana of the port city.
The deceased was identified as Javed, 24.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of city (north-south) detective branch (DB) of police Babul Akhter told banglanews that based on Javed’s information, police conducted another drive at Haji Nur Ahmed Tower at Khowaznagar Azimpara Lalmia Contractor Road, where the grenade blasted, leaving two cops and the JMB man injured.
Three injured were rushed to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where on duty physician declared Javed dead around 6:00am on Tuesday.
CMCH police outpost Nayek Mohammad Abu Hamid confirmed the matter to banglanews.
On Monday, Police detained five JMB members, including its army wing chief for Chittagong region, from their den in Karnaphuli Thana of the port city.
During the drive, police also seized 120 rounds of bullet, nine hand grenades, a pistol and 10 knives.
