DHAKA: Supreme Court chamber judge stayed the High Court (HC) order that asked Gaibandha-1 constituency MP Manjurul Islam Liton to surrender before lower court by October 18 in a case for shooting a boy.
After the stay order, there is no bar to arrest the ruling party lawmaker, said lawyers.
Chamber judge of the SC's Appellate Division Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain on Wednesday passed the order after hearing the petition filed by state prosecution.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the petition.
On October 12, the HC asked lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton to surrender before lower court by October 18 in the case rejecting his bail petition.
Earlier, the ruling Awami League (AL) lawmaker appeared before the HC on Monday in the case as per court order that passed while hearing an anticipatory bail petition.
On October 2, a nine-year-old schoolboy was shot in legs allegedly by lawmaker Liton in Gopalcharan area in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha district.
Day after the incident, Sourabh's father Saju Mia filed a case with Sundarganj Police Station against the lawmaker.
