DHAKA: A city court has sent BNP acting general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to jail in three violence cases filed with Paltan Thana in city.

Court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Maruf Hossain passed the order following the BNP leader’s surrender before the court and a bail plea on Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier around 3:45pm, Mirza Fakhrul surrendered to the CMM court and appealed for bail, which was denied by the court.

The defending lawyers Advocate Khandakar Mahbub Hossain, Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukdar and Advocate Zainul Abedin, among others, took part in the hearing.

On October 2, a 4-member appeal bench, led by Chief Justice SK Sinha rejected the BNP leader’s appeal for extending the date of his surrender.
