MEHERPUR: Police, in an overnight drive, detained eight local leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami from Gangni Upazila of the district.

Of the detainees, seven were BNP men and one was a Jamaat man.

Confirming the matter, Gangni police station officer-in-charge (OC) Akram Hossain told banglanews that they detained them on charge of planning to create sabotage in the upazila.

Meanwhile, separate teams of Meherpur sadar, Gangni and Mujibnagar thanas detained 14 other listed criminals early Thursday.
