DINAJPUR: Police detained 53 leaders and activists of BNP and its major ally Jamaat-e-Islami from different parts of Dinajpur district on Thursday.

The arrest drive was conducted from Wednesday night to Thursday morning.

Dinajpur police super (SP) Ruhul Amin told banglanews among the arrestees, 41 were from BNP and 12 from Jamaat and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir.

‘Police conducted the drive to avoid any untoward situation during Jamaat’s daylong countrywide hartal in the district,’ he added.

According to the SP, additional law enforcers have been deployed in the important areas of the district town though there was no affect of hartal in the day.
