20-party to join local govt elections

DHAKA: BNP led 20-party alliance took decision in principle in joining the local government elections with party symbols and nomination.

The decision came from a meeting of alliance leaders, held at Gulshan office on Thursday night, with BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in the chair.

Meeting sources said when sought their opinion about ‘whether it will be right decision to join local government polls’, alliance leaders responded positively.

Then, alliance chief Khaleda Zia took decision in principle to join the forthcoming elections. But she is unwilling to expose the decision to media right now, they added.

Sources concerned said the head of the alliance will hold a press confenrce within some days to expose its stance.

When contacted, Bangladesh NAP chairman Jebel Rahman Gani told banglanews that local government election was also discussed in the meeting. Alliance chief sought our opinion about the joining in the polls. Now, she will take final decision.

Moulana Abdul Halim of Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr Ahmed Abdul Kader of Khelafat Majlish, Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho of Bangladesh Jatiya Party, D Redwan Ahmed of LDP, Mostafa Jamal Haider of Jatiya Party (Zafar), JAGPA president Shafiul Alam Prodhan, Bangladesh NAP chairman Jebel Rahman Gani and leaders of other allies.
