DHAKA: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad said that there will be no deferment of municipal elections and Member of Parliament (MP) will not be allowed to join in poll campaigns.

The CEC made the disclosure to the media after a meeting with four election commissioners and EC secretary at EC office in city’s Agargaon area on Monday.

However, BNP and Jatiya Party (JP) demanded the EC to defer the date of municipal elections while the ruling Awami League (AL) and JP demanded the MPs participation in the poll campaigns.

The EC turned down the demands.
