DHAKA: The Supreme Court has adjourned till December 7 the placing of argument by the state at the hearing of appeal filed by condemned war criminal Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami.
Earlier in the day, the lawyers of condemned war criminal Jamaat-e-Islami ameer concluded placing their arguments at the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday.
Then, state counsel started placing their argument at the Appellate Division in Nizami’s appeal hearing.
Later, the 4-member Appellate Division bench, led by Chief Justice SK Sinha, adjourned hearing the argument till December 7.
The other members include -- Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana, Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and Justice Hasan Foez Siddique.
Defense lawyer SM Shahjahan finished presenting arguments in the morning. After that, advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, main lawyer of Nizami, placed arguments on legal points at the court.
Later, the hearing of the case will come to an end through placing counter arguments by the defense party on December 8.
Earlier, submission of documents, including the verdict by the Tribunal, to the Appellate Division started on September 9 and ended on November 25.
Earlier on October 29, three-member International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 consisting of its chairman Justice M Enayetur Rahim, Justice Anwarul Haque and Justice Jahangir Hossain sentenced Nizami to death in a case of crimes against humanity during the country’s war of liberation in 1971.
