DHAKA: The High Court (HC) has stayed the expulsion order of Dinajpur municipal mayor Syed Jahangir Alam for one month.

An HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hasan and Justice SH Mohammad Nurul Huda Jaigirdar passed the order on Wednesday following a hearing on Jahangir Alam’s plea.

On December 3, local government division issued an expulsion notice in accusation of irregularities. Later, the mayor challenged the notice and appealed to the HC.

Defense lawyer Ruhul Kuddus Kajal attended the hearing.

However, Syed Jahangir Alam is BNP’s Dinajpur district unit joint secretary and also Jatiyatabadi Swechchasebak Dal convener.
