RANGPUR: A total of 18 members of Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were detained from four districts of the country.
They were arrested for their alleged involvements with the murder of Japan citizen Hoshi Kunio, shooting Italian citizen and priest Piero Parolari and two Bangladeshi citizens and attacking at temples.
Of them, seven were held from Rangpur, five from Dinajpur and three each from Lalmonirhat and Gaibandha districts.
This was disclosed in a press briefing at the conference room of Rangpur DIG on Tuesday.
DIG Humayun Kabir said of the 18 arrested, Ishaq Ali, Masud Rana, Abul Khayer and Fuad are put on remand.
He also said that Ishaq’s elder brother Insaq Ali is JMB’s head for northern region of the country.
Currently, Insaq Ali is in Libya and controlling JMB’s activities from there, he added.
Police superintendents of eight districts and other high-ups were present at the conference.
