DHAKA: Election Commission (EC) has sought assistance from the Prime Minister for holding the upcoming municipal elections free and fair.
Election commissioner Mohammad Shahnewaz made the comment while talking to the media at his office in city Sunday afternoon.
It is a great responsibility of the people who are in the government to assist for a free and fair election, he opined.
‘Intervention from the head of the government is also needed in this regard,’ he added.
Regarding the arrest of the criminals, the election commissioner said that they had asked the law enforcement agencies to nab the culprits.
‘Actions will be taken against the election officials, who will not take steps for the violation of the election rules,’ he vowed.
Rejecting BNP’s allegation of EC’s biasness to the ruling party, Shahnewaz said that they were discharging their duties impartially.
