DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday postponed the elections in Ranisankail municipality of Thakurgaon district.

EC office sources told banglanews that a letter, signed by EC assistant secretary M Rajib Ahsan, was sent to the returning officer concerned on Wednesday.

Earlier on December 9, a court ordered a six-month postponement of the polls in Ranisankail municipality and asked the EC to take actions in this regard.

Besides, the High Court postponed the elections in Gafargaon municipality of Mymensingh district recently.

The EC, however, did not say anything about the order.

Polls in 233 municipalities of the country will be held on December 30.
