BNP expresses doubt over fair polls

DHAKA: BNP standing committee member Dr Abdul Moin Khan said that they have expressed their doubt to the visiting foreign envoys regarding the upcoming municipality polls in the country.

He told the media after the meeting Wednesday afternoon.

‘We have also talked about the current political situation in the country,’ he added.

Dr Moin further said, ‘We want a fair poll. The Election Commission (EC) is helpless to the government, ministers, MPs and ruling party members. BNP people are being attacked and also being harassed by cases’.

He also hoped that the government will arrange free and fair polls for people of the country and for the revival of democracy.

The BNP leader said they also talked about the role of the foreign envoys to keep the upcoming municipality polls free from political influence.

However, ambassadors of Singapore, Pakistan and Turkey, acting ambassador of Australia, deputy ambassadors of European Union (EU) and Germany and political secretaries of the USA, UK, Japan, India, Nepal and Sweden attended the meeting.

Of the BNP leaders, standing committee member Dr Moin Khan, chairperson’s adviser Sabih Uddin Ahmed, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Riaz Rahman, Asaduzzaman Ripon and Inam Ahmed Chowdhury, among others, were present there.
