DHAKA: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on Wednesday categorically said except a few scattered incidents the regular feature of municipal polls environment was peaceful and festive.

The CEC further said, “No mentionable violence could take place as the Election Commission (EC) was strict in arranging free, fair and impartial polls”.

The CEC made this assertion while addressing a press briefing at EC media center in city this evening after the polls.

Kazi Rakib also said the EC was cautious from the outset so that no violence could take place.

According to the CEC, voting in 50 polling centers and in Madhabdi municipality of Narsingdi has been postponed due to some irregularities.

Thanking the law enforcers, he mentioned about dismissing a few law enforcing agency personnel temporarily for their alleged involvement with regularities.

The CEC also thanked the media for its wide ranged assistance in the polls.

He also said the EC took actions crosschecking some allegations the political parties filed to them.
