Sayedee sent to jail after quizzing under remand

DHAKA: A Dhaka court sent Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Delawar Hossain Sayedee to jail again after his three-day remand in a case filed under the anti-terrorism act with Kadamtali police station.

Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Emdadul Haque passed the order as Metropolitan Detective police inspector, also investigating officer of the case, Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman produced the Jamaat leader before the court after the three-day remand.

Meanwhile, the court also rejected his bail petition filed by his lawyer, General Recording officer (GRO) of the court Sakhawat Hossain told banglanews24.com.bd.

Advocate Abdur Razzak and SM Kamal Uddin moved for the accused in the court while additional assistant practitioner Saiful Islam Helal for the state.    

Earlier on July 23, Nizami, his party Secretary-General Ali Ahasan Mohammad Mojaheed and Nayeb-e Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee were shown arrested in the case filed with Kadamtali thana on May 23.

The Jamaat bigwigs were arrested on June 29 on a charge of hurting religious sentiments. They have later been implicated in several charges, including ‘crime against humanity’ during the 1971 liberation war.
