KHULNA: The namaz-e-janaza of former mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) and former forest and environment affairs secretary of BNP advocate Sheikh Tayebur Rahman was held on Saturday.
The first namaz-e-janaza of Tayebur Rahman was arranged at Shaheed Hadis Park in Khulna around 11:45am. Former principal of Khulna Alia Madrasa and Town Jame Masjid Khatib Maulana Mohammad Saleh conducted the janaza.
Later, second namaz-e-janaza was held at Koylaghat mosque.
However, the body has been taken to mortuary of Khulna Medical College Hospital.
The former mayor’s burial will be held after the return of his three daughters from aboard, said the deceased’s only son Ashik Rahman.
Sheikh Tayebur Rahman breathed his last at Nargis Memorial Hospital in Khulna city around 11:00am at the age of 80. He had been undergoing treatment there since a brain stroke.
City BNP president Nazrul Islam Manju informed the matter to banglanews.
Tayebur Rahman was elected as mayor of Khulna city in three consecutive terms.
He was born in Korori village of Bagerhat on October 21, 1936.
Also Former ambassador Tayebur Rahman was BNP’s central executive committee member.
